“Salvation for a race, nation, or class must come from within. Freedom is never granted; it is won. Justice is never given; it is exacted. Freedom and justice must be struggled for by the oppressed of all lands and races, and the struggle must be continuous.”

–A. Philip Randolph

Njanga Olo Losgero School

In the fall of 2007, MCI established a feeding program at Njanga Olo Losgero School in the Talek region. Children are required to bring one stick of wood every morning to be used in building the fire under a large kettle in which beans and rice are prepared, and their own bowls from home. Since the program was established, school enrollment has more than doubled and the school has expanded. Since 2009, Njanga Olo Losgero School has been funded by the Kenyan government. MCI complements the government’s effort by providing nutritious foodstuffs, help with school uniforms, and technology assistance.

In January 2010, MCI opened a solar-powered computer lab at the Olo Losgero School, with five laptops and satellite internet access. Students are learning basic computer skills, including typing, and will work with MCI volunteers to manage their own email addresses and Facebook pages. MCI will apply lessons from this pilot program in constructing computer labs at schools and community centers throughout Maasailand.
