How Can I Help?
Contribute
As a Maasai-run organization with minimal overhead, MCI is savvy about the Kenyan economy and can avoid many of the inefficiencies that plague many Western operated charities. This financial knowledge in combination with our diverse grassroots network enables us to extract a prodigious amount of programming from every dollar we spend. MCI can operate a feeding program at a 300 student school for between $2,000 and $5,000 per semester depending on the level of food assistance provided by the government. A stone classroom can be built for about $8,000 while teachers’ housing costs about $10,000 per unit. Donations to MCI therefore have a palpable and immediate impact on improving educational opportunities of Maasai children.
MCI is registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c) (3) organization, so your contributions are tax deductible.
Donate Laptop Computers
MCI is committed to teaching every Maasai student how to operate a computer, use the internet and send and receive email. The more computers we have available, the greater the number of students we can teach. MCI’s Chairman and Executive Director travel frequently between Kenya and the United States, and Kenyan customs officials have been willing to waive duty on laptop computers donated to our program. We are therefore actively soliciting donations of computer equipment from high technology manufacturers and distributors.
Volunteer
MCI is seeking volunteers to teach computer skills to our students, construct kitchens and new classrooms at the schools we serve, and provide health education, medical care and family planning services to Maasai women who live near our Center. We welcome student groups, church and synagogue organizations and charitable groups who are interested in providing direct services to Maasai students and village women. Volunteers experience the satisfaction of improving the lives of others and enjoy an intimate cultural exchange with the Maasai community members in the midst of the most exhilarating wildlife viewing venue in the world.
